Thoughtful Design

With a respectful nod to the heritage of the canoe, our boats blend smart design and proprietary techniques with the best of traditional and modern materials – all harmonized to give you an exceptional paddling experience.

  • Our canoes are a study in simplicity. Their purposeful design and premium materials provide endless outings with no worry of mechanical failure. They’re powered by you.

  • Our boats are naturally lightweight, making them easy to load, unload and transport. It also makes them great for carries/portages.

  • Design elements are balanced to hit the sweet spot for a variety of paddling conditions.

  • A pronounced vee-bottom combined with a gentle rocker (more accentuated toward the stems) offer the open water tracking of a longer boat while still negotiating small stream meanders with aplomb.

Our cheeky, shaped hull is highly efficient, designed for easy hours of extended cruising. Remains steady and predictable in choppy conditions when winds pick up.

Wooden gunwales can take a beating and typically require more maintenance than any other part of the boat. Our boats feature gunwales made from 13 layers of wood laminated together in a cross-grained pattern. They are permanently bonded to the hull along their entire length, then impregnated with multiple coats of epoxy, providing exceptional durability. They are made to last with minimal upkeep (never need oiling!), and may just be the most durable wooden gunwale in the industry.

The stems (ends) of canoes also need to be sturdy and long-lasting. Ours include three layers of fiberglass reinforcement on the outside of the hull, yet remain transparent so the natural beauty of the boat shows through. On the inside, they are bonded with epoxy reinforced with wood fibers for exceptional durability.

Our boats are strong and built to last. They take a bit longer to craft than other boats, but the results are worth it.

  • We consciously place our seats a skosh higher and provide exceptional lumbar support for all-day comfort.

  • Our seats are built for comfort and years of service. The frames consist of 9 plies of laminated wood. Combined with heavy-duty pack webbing, they’re comfortable, breathable and dry quickly when you go for that cool-off swim.

The backrests support your lumbar. They feature a curved wooden form bonded to the thwart and topped with a removable padded nylon cover. We feel this is the most comfortable solution available for extended paddling.

Easy-to-make paddle strokes because of our size-appropriate freeboard and a bit of tumblehome.
